Mastery Learning

Mastery and metacognition are central to our teaching approach at Dormers Wells High School, as students have a broad curriculum to master and need of larger stores of knowledge.

It is essential that students have an understanding of how they learn best and a repertoire of techniques to revise and revisit previously learned material. In addition, these strategies provide students with a deeper, more thorough level of knowledge, as well as a greater understanding of themselves as learners, that will support them throughout and beyond education. This fits in with our spiral curriculum model where knowledge and skills are repeated over time.
