Dormers Wells High School is now directly involved in supporting our students to complete a Duke of Edinburgh Award. Support is delivered through the Community Cohesion Team; led by Ms Blakebrough.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is the world’s leading youth achievement award, giving millions of 14 to 24-year-olds the opportunity to be the very best they can be.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a highly valued qualification by employers and universities. It is recognised as being one of the best programmes in the world for developing skills that our young people will benefit from their entire lives.
Dormers Wells High School currently has over 50 students taking part in this award. They are being supported throughout and are excited about the various stages of the award. If you are interested in taking part and in Yr10 - Yr13 please see Ms Blakebrough for details. We strongly encourage parents to talk to their children about taking up this wonderful opportunity.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award has three stages: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each stage has 4 sections; Volunteering, Physical, and Skill which you need to complete for one hour a week as well as an Expedition. The Gold Award also has an additional residential section. Achieving my Bronze & Silver Awards have allowed me to volunteer at a charity shop, earn a Grade 3 Merit in Violin, a Level 2 Sports Leadership Award and more. The country expedition was quite mentally and physically challenging. I learnt about first aid, how to map read and run away from horses! The whole experience though testing, helped me develop as a person and provided me with the skill set universities and employers look for. As part of my Gold award, I had the great chance to complete my residential section at the University of Oxford where I studied engineering for a week. I am very proud to say that the school is now offering the award at all three stages so please do not miss this exciting opportunity and sign up.
