Rewards

Rewards play an integral part of school life at Dormers Wells High School. We look for every opportunity to celebrate our students’ successes and we acknowledge them through the following ways:

  • Verbal praise
  • House points and House assemblies
  • Notes in the school diary or phone calls home
  • Postcards home
  • Curriculum area commendations
  • Curriculum Celebration and Pastoral award assemblies
  • Headteacher’s Excellence Award

The following are awarded at end of term House Assemblies:

  • Highest number of individual House Points.
  • Best attendance at Breakfast Club.
  • House Competition winners.
  • The ‘Do the Right Thing Award’ is for students who behave in an exemplary manner and go above and beyond what we expect of them.
  • Positive contributions to Houses.

The following curriculum and pastoral commendations are awarded at end of term Year Assemblies:

  • Excellent progress in a subject.
  • Positive growth mindset in a subject.
  • Excellent engagement with the form time pastoral programme.
  • Excellent progress across a number of subjects.
  • Excellent school attendance and punctuality.

Any member of staff can nominate a student for The Headteacher’s Excellence Award. The criteria for this award are:

  • Sustained good work or effort (ie.not a one off piece of work or lesson).
  • Outstanding contribution to the school community.

Students who receive this award sign the Headteacher’s Excellence Book.

awards evening

The celebration highlight of the year is our Awards Evening. Students from Year 7 to Year 13 are nominated for outstanding academic success across all curriculum subjects and year groups as well as for outstanding contribution to the wider school community. Parents/Carers of the nominated students and all teachers are invited to attend this annual event to celebrate the student’s success and commitment to learning. To have been recognised in this way reflects a year of hard work, positive growth mindset and commitment to their subjects or wider school activities.

jack petchey award

The Jack Petchey Award scheme is a national award scheme which highlights and recognises outstanding young people for a variety of different achievements. During the academic year, Dormers Wells High School students have nine opportunities to be nominated by staff and fellow students for a Jack Petchey Award. The winning students receive membership to the Jack Petchey Club and are invited to attend the regional award ceremony to celebrate their achievements.
